Dod Michael, PhD

Biologist


Dod holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from UT Southwestern, with a focus on reproductive endocrinology. At the Joslin Diabetes Center, he conducted postdoctoral research on tissue-specific insulin signaling.

In 2000, he joined Eli Lilly’s Endocrine Therapeutic Area as an in vivo physiologist, spending a decade advancing antisense and small molecule therapies for type 2 diabetes. He later led the revitalization of Lilly’s insulin and glucagon research team, bringing new projects from concept to clinic within three years. As Sr. Director of Insulin Discovery Biology, he collaborated on connected care technologies and an automated insulin delivery system. In 2018, he became Chief Scientific Officer at Thermalin, refining strategies for insulin analog development and securing funding for miniaturized pump technologies. In 2024, Dod founded Discover Optimize Develop, LLC, a consulting firm supporting biotech and pharma companies in transforming pharmaceutical and medical device concepts into clinical solutions.
